CUTLINE: One person was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for serious injuries after a two-vehicle accident on Mahood Road Friday afternoon. Two vehicles, a pickup truck and an SUV, clipped one another heading opposite directions on Mahood Road just west of Thompson Road around 2:30 p.m..

Route 228 West is closed for a quarter-mile stretch between Route 8 and Old Route 8 after tires on a tractor-trailer caught fire around 12:47 p.m. The tractor-trailer flatbed owned by William Brown Trucking in Valencia was carrying steel beams east on Route 228 when a rear tire on the trailer blew .
