Jim Pritts (left) and Joe Tobin flip grilled chicken on Nixon United Methodist Church's massive grill trailer during the church's annual chicken barbecue. Organizers typically grill 400 half-chickens. Proceeds from the event are distributed by the Methodist Men organization, which puts on the event, and go to local outreach for needy families and area youth. Firefighters on scene confirmed the steeple of St. Fidelis Parish on Penn Avenue in Lyndora was struck by lightning Saturday afternoon. The strike tore through the roof of the steeple leaving shingles scattered around the church. No evidence of fire was visible from the street.
