The 2019 Pennsylvania Alpaca Princess, 18-year-old Jillian Ranko, of Butler, spent time encouraging young fans at the Big Butler Fair on Thursday. Four-year-old cousins Bella and Grace Clegg, of New Hampshire and Ohio respectively, were enamored with Ranko. DCNR volunteer John Chos operates a late nineteeth, early twentieth century Bessemer gas engine at the Muddy Creek Oil Field in Morraine State Park. The restored oil field operated from the late 1800s to the 1960s. Visitors can see monthly demonstrations of one of the original engines that once alternated pumping of 19 to 29 nearby oil wells. The oil wells and a small museum are located on the southeastern edge of Morraine State park. Volunteers will staff the site August 10, Sept. 14, and Oct. 12. Seb Foltz/Butler Eagle
